The European Parliament has approved a package of reforms aimed at 'strengthening farmers’ position in the food supply chain,' including introducing stricter rules on plant-based meat alternative labelling across the EU.

More than 20 plant-based food brands operating across the EU, UK and US have issued a joint letter calling on EU policymakers to maintain the current regulatory framework governing plant-based product labelling.

The EU’s new Bioeconomy Strategy sets out plans to support fermentation-based food innovation, as the Netherlands becomes the first EU country to permit public tastings of fermentation-made novel foods.
